Attack By Land Grabbers: Injured forest officer dies at Ctg hospital

A forester who was critically injured in an attack by land grabbers last week, died yesterday morning in Chattogram.

Sultanul Ahmed Chowdhury, range officer in Maheshkhali under the Chattogram Coastal Forest Division, confirmed the news to The Daily Star.

Md Yousuf Uddin, 30, a forester at Maheshkhali range, was undergoing treatment at the ICU in Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), the range officer said.

On July 30, a team of forest officials rushed to Koroibunia area of Keruntholi beat in Maheshkhali, based on a tip-off that land grabbers were damaging a plantation in order to make space to grow betel leaf.

Once they reached the spot, the team was attacked by the grabbers.

Three members were injured, including Yousuf, whose condition was critical, said Sultanul.

"Yousuf fought for his life for the last five days, but died yesterday morning," he added.
