Bogura imam held under DSA for ‘defaming PM’

Police arrested an imam of a local mosque from Sherpur upazila of Bogura under the Digital Security Act (DSA) early today for making "defamatory remarks against the prime minister, spreading anti-state propaganda and communal statements through Facebook."

The arrestee, Maolana Abdur Rahman Didari, is the imam of Bagra Colony Jame Mosque under Kusumbi union, reports our Bogura correspondent quoting Additional Superintendent of Police (Bogura Sadar Circle) Sanatan Chakraborty.

He is a supporter of Jamaat-e-Islami and its leader Delwar Hossain Sayeedi, the ASP said.

A team of Sherpur Police Station arrested him around 12:15am from Bagra Colony area.

The imam, during primary investigation, admitted that he posted the Facebook statuses out of anger after Delwar Hossain Sayeedi was sentenced to death, confirmed the police official.

He will be presented at court today where police will pray for seven-day remand of the arrestee.
