The building is being demolished by the owner, reports our Chattogram correspondent.

Initially, the doors and windows are being removed, said Nezam Uddin, Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Police Station.

After visiting the building, Chattogram Development Authority's (CDA) Chief Town Planner Shahinul Islam Khan told The Daily Star that the five-storey building was constructed violating the plan approved by the authority.

"We approved the plan in 1996 but it was built around five years later," he said, adding, "There are faults in the design."

Asked, why CDA did not monitor whether the building was constructed violating the approved design, Shahinul said CDA approves plans of 2,500 structures in a year with condition of building those within three years from the date of approval.

"It is not possible for us to follow a party for three years," Shahin said.

"At present, CDA has 4.5 lakhs of approved structures," he said. "Is it possible (for us) to monitor all those?" he asked.

Asked, whether legal action would be taken against the owner of tilted building, he answered in the positive.
