Technical Training Centres (TTC) will be installed in every upazila with an aim to develop a skilled workforce, said Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmad, at the inauguration of a modern and well-furnished building at Rajshahi TTC yesterday.
“We have a plan to send 1,000 competent workers from each upazila to overseas markets every year. This makes the establishment of TTC at upazila levels very important,” the minister added.
The newly-inaugurated building is part of a four-year project titled “Capacity Development Programme for TTC, Rajshahi”, a joint endeavour of Korea International Cooperation Agency (Koica) and Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET) to enhance the quality of vocational education in the country.
Special guests State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on expatriates’ ministry Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud, and Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton addressed the ceremony, chaired by ministry secretary Selim Reja.
BMET Director General Shamsul Alam and Director of the project Dr Nurul Islam, KOICA Country Director Hyungue Joe, and Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Hamidul Haque also spoke on the occasion.
The Tk 87.11 crore project includes establishing a new academic building and a dormitory, supplying necessary training equipment, and training for 18 instructors and six officers in South Korea.
Koica provided Tk 67 crore as grant aid for the TTC in order to support the national initiative of strengthening the capacity of vocational training.
