Two girl students took their own life on Wednesday in two upazilas of the district as they could not pass in the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations.
The deceased are Shrikona Roy, 17, daughter of Mukti Chandra Roy of Dakkhin Nashratpur village in Chirirbandar upazila, and Nakul Kumar Biswas, 18, son of Akil Chandra Biswas of Ananda Bazar village in Parbatipur upazila.
Officer in Charge (OC) of Chirirbandar Police Station Haresul Islam said Shrikona appeared in the HSC examinations from Isamati Degree College in the upazila this year, but failed to pass the examination.
Disappointed with the result, the girl hanged herself from the ceiling fan of her room on Wednesday, the OC said, adding that, being informed, they recovered the body and sent it to the hospital for autopsy.
Meanwhile, when Nakul learnt that he failed to pass the examination he went to bordering Phulbari Rail Crossing, leaving his friends behind, and jumped under a running intercity-train around 1:00pm and died on the spot, OC of Phulbari Police Station Fakhrul Islam said, adding that they recovered the body and handed it over to his family, following request from the family members.
