The injured -- Delwar Hossain and Belgium Sumon of the same village– are undergoing treatment at Sadar Hospital under police custody.

Iqbal Hossain Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said police arrested them from their village yesterday afternoon.

Later, the law enforcers launched a drive in Duttapara area along with the arrestees around 10:00pm to recover hidden firearms, the OC said.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the gang members opened fire on police, forcing them to fire back that triggered a “gun battle”.

Six policemen were also injured in the incident, the police official said.

The three criminals are accused in several cases, he added.
