Three of a family including a seven-year-old child were killed in a road accident on Nagarbari-Bogura highway in Sirajganj's Shahzadpur upazila last night.
The incident took place around 7:00pm near the Shahzadpur bus stand when a speeding bus hit a battery-run auto-rickshaw from the rear and fled from the scene, leaving the passengers of the three-wheeler dead on the spot, our Pabna correspondent reports quoting Md Khairul Islam, officer-in-charge of Hatikumrul Highway Police Station.
The deceased were identified as Kanchu Sutrodhar (40), his wife Anna Rani (35) and their daughter Tora Sutrodhar (7), of Sarishakandi village in the upazila, the OC said.
The victims were returning home from Shahzadpur bus stand on the three-wheeler when the incident took place, the OC also said, adding that the driver of the three-wheeler survived the incident with minor injuries.
When informed of the incident, police rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies, which were later handed over to the victims' family members, OC Khairul also said.
Police are trying to identify the bus and arrest its driver, he added.
