Eid Mubarak everyone!

Let the teachings of Ramadan enrich all our lives

As the month of Ramadan approaches its end, we will once again be celebrating a different type of Eid. The resurgence of Covid-19 has again dampened this year's Eid celebrations. However, we must still carry with us the lessons that the holy month of Ramadan teaches us—empathy for those less fortunate and other important values such as compassion, honesty, tolerance and respect for life.

Eid is also a time when we should give generously. And this year, like the year before, is a time when all of us should reach out and give to those who are in desperate need of assistance. As a nation, we have now gone through more than a year of trials and tribulations brought about by the global pandemic. Countless lives have been turned upside down by the loss of income, livelihoods and of people who were near and dear to us. It is in times like this when we most need to come together, recalling the true spirit of Ramadan, to ensure that those in need of succour will be treated with the dignity that religion promises to accord to them.

Despite the need to maintain social distancing, those of us who are in privileged positions should generously provide whatever monetary assistance we can to those in need. Another great way we can help is by donating to the numerous organisations that, with their dedicated volunteers, have been working tirelessly to provide assistance to others in their own unique ways.

Besides that, we must all continue to follow the necessary health guidelines even during the Eid congregations and do our little part to ensure that no more lives are lost unnecessarily.

We thank our dear readers and patrons for staying with us and supporting us during this crisis. We wish everyone a safe and joyous Eid.
