With whatever space they could find to sit on, a family of five travels on a motorbike on Mirpur Road. Except for the rider, no one is wearing a helmet. To make the matter worse, the woman is holding an umbrella in one hand while the children are grabbing onto whatever’s available. There is a police check post right beside them. The photo was taken at Science Laboratory yesterday. Photo: Amran Hossain

Churihatta in Chawkbazar -- that came to prominence after a devastating fire earlier this year -- derives its name from the businesses centring the area: glass bangles. A trader is seen carrying the colourful fashion accessories from the factories to wholesalers, from where these will be distributed country-wide. The business sees busy days ahead of Eid, with each set of six to eight bangles selling from Tk 15 to Tk 40. Photo: Anisur Rahman
WHOSE FOOTPATH IS IT ANYWAY?
An access ramp has been built occupying a part of this footpath to facilitate exit and entry of cars in Dhaka’s Siddeshwari. City corporation authorities had demolished such illegal extensions in the area few months ago, but several building owners have rebuilt these, in a blatant disservice to pedestrians. Buddha Purnima celebrated
A girl lights a candle on the occasion of Buddha Purnima yesterday. The biggest religious festival of the Buddhist community was celebrated countrywide amid festivity and religious fervour. Lord Buddha was born on this day of full moon in 563 BC. He attained enlightenment and passed away on the same day. The photo was taken at Nandan Kanan Buddha Bihar in Chattogram. Photo: Rajib Raihan
