No decision yet on vaccinating children aged 12-17: DGHS official
There is no decision yet on inoculating children, aged 12-17, with the Covid-19 vaccine, a health directorate official said today.
"We have not received any decision in this regard yet. We will certainly inform if there is any decision," Dr Nazmul Islam, spokesperson of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), said in an online briefing this afternoon.
He said the health ministry and the DGHS will take the decision by taking suggestions from the National Immunization Committee in this regard.
At an event yesterday, Health Minister Zahid Maleque said children -- aged 12-17 -- will be inoculated with the Covid-19 vaccine within the next 15-20 days.
Referring to the slow pace of vaccination, Dr Nazmul Islam said that they have not received any directives to hold a special campaign for inoculation.
Earlier on August 7-12, the government inoculated around 34 lakh people through a special campaign up to the union level.
