36 tin-shed rooms gutted in Gazipur fire, no casualties reported
Thirty-six rooms of a one-storey building have been gutted in a fire in the Fakhruddin Textile Mills area in Gazipur's Sreepur upazila.
The tin-shed rooms, mostly rented by garment workers, belonged to an Osman Gani in the area.
No casualties were reported since all the workers went to visit their village homes during Eid-ul-Azha. The rooms were locked from outside when the fire broke out earlier today.
Mostafizur Rahman, an inspector of Sreepur Fire Service and Civil Defence, said two firefighting units reached the spot within 10 minutes after they were informed.
They brought the fire under control in 30 minutes. The loss and damage due to the fire could not be estimated as yet.
Fatema Begum, who rented one of the rooms, told our correspondent that all of her belongings were destroyed in the blaze.
