11 officials of a housing project arrested on land grabbing charges in Dhamrai
Dhamrai police have arrested 11 officials and employees of a housing project named Aksir Nagar on various charges including land grabbing in Dhamrai.
They were arrested last night from the housing project's office in Kulla Union's Makhulia area and were taken to the court at 12pm today, our local correspondent reports quoting police.
Dhamrai Police Inspector (Operations) Nirmal Kumar Das said, five separate cases against Aksir Nagar Housing Project have been filed by the locals. On the basis of these allegations, eleven people have been arrested. They've all been summoned to the court.
The arrestees are Sohag Mia (23), Aminul Islam (38), Sujan Hossain (22), Nasir Uddin (37), Shafiqul Islam (28), Russell (22), Saiful Islam (34), Alamgir Hawladar (31), Nannu Sheikh (23), Masud Rana (18), and Md Hossain (33).
Locals claim that officials of the Aksir Nagar Project were forcibly filling lands that had already been purchased by others, said the inspector, adding that the housing project officials have harassed local protesters, including landowners.
Babu Kalipada Sarkar, chairman of the Kulla Union Parishad, said several protests including human chains were arranged against the Aksir Nagar housing project authorities but nothing worked.
