2 DB officials transferred for ‘extorting’ Bogura businessman
Two police officials of Bogura Detective Branch have been transferred for allegedly threatening a local businessman and taking money from him.
The police personnel are Inspector Emran Mahmud Tuhin and Sub-inspector Shawkot Alam of Bogura DB police.
They were transferred to Rajshahi Reserve Force today, said Ali Haider Chowdhury, additional superintendent (Admin) of Bogura district police.
This decision was taken after a three-member probe body found the duo guilty in their primary investigation.
On July 13, Ali Haider Choudhury received complaint against the two police officials. Later the superintendent of Bogura district police formed a three-member probe body to investigate the allegation.
According to the complaint, Inspector Tuhin and SI Shawkot Alam went to the Al-Amin complex and searched the office of Master Biri Factory.
When the duo did not get anything to implicate owner Helal Uddin, they threatened him with filing a case for keeping fake brand rolls and demanded Tk 9 lakhs, stated the complaint.
Fearful, Helal gave them the money, the complaint said, adding that upon getting the money, the two police officials asked the victim not to disclose the matter to police.
We are investigating the incident and will submit our report to the SP soon, Additional SP Ali Haider, head of the probe body, said.
One of the accused, Inspector Emran Mahmud Tuhin, termed the allegation brought against them as "false".
