Man held with Saudi riyal worth Tk 53 lakh at Dhaka airport
Customs Intelligence officials detained a man with Saudi riyal equivalent to Tk 53.71 lakh at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport early today.
Mamun Bepari (29) was detained at the airport as he was trying to board an Istanbul-bound Turkish Airlines flight around 3:45am, said a press release signed by Tanvir Ahmed, assistant director of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate.
On information, the officials intercepted him and found 2.62 lakh Saudi riyal, scanning his luggage, it added.
Mamun could not show any paper or approval for taking the currency abroad. He was handed over to Airport Police Station.
Two cases were filed against him.
Earlier on July 26, Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBn) detained a man, Jahangir Gazi, with foreign currencies equivalent to Tk 2.5 crore at the airport.
