Sylhet-3 by-polls will be held as per schedule: CEC
By-polls to Sylhet-3 constituency, which is scheduled to be held on July 28, will not be postponed due to the ongoing "strict lockdown", Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda said today.
All activities regarding the by-poll will remain out of the purview of the "lockdown", the CEC said.
He was addressing a meeting with law enforcement agencies over the by-polls this morning at the conference hall of the district administration office, reports our Sylhet correspondent.
The chief election commissioner said, "Administration will be strict in enforcing health protocol during the by-poll and all necessary arrangement of the by-polls have been completed already."
He also urged voters to wear mask and maintain social distancing while coming to the election centres.
Brigadier General (retd) Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury, among others, was present at the meeting.
Sylhet-3 constituency was vacated after lawmaker Mahmud Us Samad Chowdhury died of Covid-19 on March 11.
Around 3.30 lakh voters of three upazilas—Dakshin Surma, Fenchuganj and Balaganj -- will be casting vote on July 28 from 8am to 4pm.
Habibur Rahman Habib of ruling Awami League candidate, Mohammad Atiqur Rahman of Jatiya Party, Junayed Mohammad Miah of Bangladesh Congress, and Shafi Ahmed Chowdhury, BNP rebel candidate, will contest the by-poll.
