Local Government and Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md Tazul Islam today directed to conduct anti-mosquito drives in all under-construction buildings and establishments under the Ministry of Housing and Public Works.
The minister at a virtual meeting asked Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk), Department of Architecture, National Housing Authority, Department of Public Works and other organisations under the ministry to conduct the anti-mosquito drives by their own initiative.
He also urged the organisations to work in a coordinated way with the two city corporations of Dhaka to kill Aedes mosquitoes.
The Rajuk chairman and housing secretary were asked to take necessary steps in this regard.
Minister Tazul said these organisations have many under-construction buildings and establishments and also there are many such buildings under both government and private housing areas where authorities concerned have found Aedes mosquito larvae.
He directed the authorities concerned to conduct operations at every government building, residential area, under-construction building and all the markets including Karwan Bazar and New Market.
The LGRD minister said the insecticide which two city corporations are using is effective for killing mosquitoes and they have sufficient amount of the insecticide.
Urging everyone to come forward to clean their houses and yards, the minister said it is not possible to curb the mosquito menace by conducting anti-mosquito drives only.
