GM Quader blames few govt officials and ruling party of influencing polls
Jatiya Party Chairman and deputy leader of the opposition GM Quader today alleged that local elections are not being held in a competitive manner.
"The Election Commission has many powers as a constitutional body. But the power of the Election Commission is not visible to the common man," he said at a programme at the JP chief's Banani office.
The JP chief alleged that a section of government officials is often involved along with the ruling party in influencing the elections. Therefore, the local body elections are not being held competitively.
GM Quader said opposition candidates cannot stay in the election due to cases being filed against them, intimidation and greed.
He said Jatiya Party will take part in each and every local government election. Participants of the party, who are taking part in different elections were given instructions to fight till the end of every poll, said Quader.
"Those who cannot fight ignoring fear and greed are not needed in Jatiya Party. The door of Jatiya Party is open for the new generation," he added.
