A Dhaka court today placed three arrestees on 14-day remand each in connection with two cases filed over the blast at Pallabi Police Station on July 29.
The arrestees are: Shahidul Islam (23), Modharraf Hossain (26), and Rafiqul Islam (40).
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mainul Islam passed the order after Md Farukuzzaman, a sub-inspector of Pallabi Police Station and also the investigation officer of the case, produced them before his court with a 20-day remand prayer in two cases.
In the remand prayers, the IO said the accused were directly involved with possessing firearms and explosives and they need to be placed on remand to find out vital clues and to learn of the whereabouts of others involved.
Defence however submitted separate petitions seeking cancellation of the remand prayers.
After hearing both sides, the magistrate turned down their pleas and issued the remand order.
Amid an existing security alert, a bomb fitted inside a "weighing machine" which police seized during a drive exploded inside Pallabi Police Station yesterday morning, injuring four policemen and a support staff member.
Police said they raided a place in Kalshi area on Tuesday and arrested three people after learning of a possible "criminal act" by a gang.
The police team found two pistols, four bullets and something that looked like a weighing machine in their possession.
Wondering why the suspects would carry a weighing machine, the officers called DMP's bomb disposal unit. After going there and examining the device, the unit recommended further inspection by a more experienced squad.
But it exploded around 6:00am, before the special team arrived.
