Stand beside people instead politicising Covid-19: Quader to BNP

Calling upon BNP to stand beside people instead of politicising the Covid-19 pandemic, Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said many are showing indifference towards health guidelines (regarding Covid-19) due to BNP's reckless statements and provocations.

Quader came up with the remarks at a press conference at his residence in Dhaka today.

"BNP is spreading falsehood and rumours against the government every day. If we respond to that, they get angry," the minister said.

"The Awami League government welcomes any constructive criticism, not rumours and propaganda", Quader said.

"Opposing in every matter has become BNP's politics at present. I urge BNP to stand beside the people instead of doing politics over the coronavirus," Quader added.

"What did BNP do for the welfare of the people apart from criticism and spreading falsehood during the pandemic?" Quader asked.

The government is making all-out strides to secure the lives as well as livelihoods of people, the Awami League leader also said.

About BNP's demand for taking all-party opinions over Covid-19, Quader said coronavirus is not a political issue.

He mentioned that there is a national advisory committee on Covid-19 and the government is taking any decision on the basis of recommendations and opinions of that committee and health experts.

Mentioning that there is no instance of forming all-party committee for containing coronavirus in the world, he said the opinion of health experts is more important than all-party opinion in this regard
