Anamul, Taijul return to Tigers’ ODI squad for SL tour

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has included batsman Anamul Haque Bijoy and left-arm spinner Taijul Islam for the upcoming Sri Lanka series.

Anamul replaces Liton Das while Taijul replaces Shakib Al Hasan, with both Shakib and Liton having been allowed a break for the series. Both Shakib and Liton had asked for a leave after the World Cup.

Abu Jayed Rahi, the pacer who was with the World Cup squad but did not get a game, has been excluded from the Sri Lanka tour while the rest of the members of the World Cup squad will travel.

"Shakib and Liton are not going to Sri Lanka. So we included Bijoy and Taijul in their position. Since Bijoy played well in domestic cricket, we included him while we needed a left-arm spinner in place of Shakib and Taijul was the choice. Rahi has not been included from the World Cup squad as we had to announce a 14-member squad," chief selector Minhajul Abedin told reporters on Tuesday.

Although there were question marks over injuries of a number of key players during the World Cup including Mahmudullah, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Mohammad Saifuddin, all four of them have been deemed fit to take part in the Sri Lanka tour, where Bangladesh will play three ODIs -- on July 26, 28 and 31 -- all in Colombo after a practice match on July 23.

The team will depart for Sri Lanka on July 20.

Bangladesh squad: Mashrafe Bin Mortaza (capt), Tamim Iqbal, Anamul Haque, Mahmudullah Riyad, Mehedi Hasan Miraz, Mohammad Mithun, Mohammad Saifuddin, Mushfiqur Rahim, Rubel Hossain, Sabbir Rahman, Soumya Sarkar, Mosaddek Hossain, Taijul Islam
