Rubel’s fifty help Prime Bank beat Mohammedan
Opener Rubel Mia smashed a blistering fifty to help his side Prime Bank beat Mohammedan Sporting Club convincingly by five wickets in the Super League stage of the ongoing Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division T20 League under lights at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur today.
Rubel Mia's 40-ball 65 and an unbeaten 31-run knock from Raqibul Hasan helped Prime Bank chase down Mohammedan's score of 154 for 7 with five balls to spare.
With Prime Bank requiring 20 off the last two overs, pacer Abu Hider Rony was struck for four boundaries in the penultimate over as Mohammedan lost their grip on the game. Rony, who conceded 19 in that over, could consider himself a tad unlucky as three of the four boundaries were courtesy of a dropped catch, an inside edge and misjudged top edge -- all off the willow of Raqibul.
Rony remained the most expensive of all Mohammedan bowlers as the left-arm pacer conceded 54 runs in four overs without scalping a single wicket.
Before that, Rubel Mia played fluently, hitting a total of nine boundaries and one maximum during his stay at the crease, to give his side a solid start.
Earlier, Mohammedan also got off to a positive start courtesy of their openers Abdul Mazid and Parvez Hossain Emon. Youngster Emon in particular got off to flying start, smashing two fours and five maximums during his 20-ball 45-run blitz.
However, Prime Bank's national team pacer Mustafizur Rahman put an end to Emon's carnage in his very first over after being introduced, ending Mohammedan's promising 58-run opening stand after 5.2 overs.
Scores of 24, an unbeaten 32 and a quick-fire 25 from Irfan Sukkur, Mahmudul Hasan and skipper Shuvagata Hom respectively helped Mohammedan eventually pile up a decent score.
Mustafizur, who made things difficult for Mohammedan batsmen with his variations, remained the most successful bowler for Prime Bank. The ace left-arm paceman finished with figures of 2 for 22 in his four overs.
