Football federation's elections going on after AGM ends peacefully

The much-hyped elections of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) are currently underway after the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the game’s governing body was held quite peacefully at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Dhaka today.

While there were a lot of allegations of financial irregularities brought about by the Save Football panel against the incumbent executive committee leading up to the elections, the AGM in the morning went without any incident. The only notable issue raised by a councilor was the Tk 8 crore outstanding loan from the arrangement of Argentina versus Nigerian friendly in Dhaka in 2011. A BFF executive committee member replied to that query by saying that that particular loan owes to the chief sponsors of that event, and not the BFF.

The AGM, meanwhile, approved the budget for year 2015, and placed a draft budget of Tk 30 crore for the current year, 2016.

After the AGM, the elections got underway at around 2:45pm, some 45 minutes later than scheduled. There were a lot of whispers and rumours going around since yesterday regarding verbal assurance from delegates to one particular panel or the other, but whether those rumours have any ground will all be clear once the polls are over by the evening. 134 delegates will cast their votes to elect 21-member executive committee, including one president, four vice-presidents and members. The post of senior-vice president will not be contested as Abdus Salam Murshedy has already been elected unopposed for that post.
