The ongoing Bangabandhu 9th Bangladesh Games will continue according to its original schedule till April 4, informed Games' steering committee chairman Bashir Ahmed Mamun today.
"The games will continue till the official notification is issued. The decision on the games will be taken after consultation with the Ministry of Health after the notification is issued. As the finals of many events will be held within April 4, the games will continue till that time," said Mamun.
The government is set to announce a seven-day lockdown from Monday (April 5) to curb the spread of the recent surge in coronavirus cases.
The multi-sports extravaganza, which was postponed last year due to the pandemic, went underway on April 1.
Some 5300 athletes are vying for 1271 medals in 378 events of 31 disciplines in the Games that is scheduled to take place till April 10.
