Thinspired is a Facebook group for Bangladeshi women to discuss their healthy lifestyles and share ideas of clean eating. It was started in late 2015 when Simra Khan, the founder became overweight post her pregnancy. “I thought of losing the weight in a natural and sustainable way and did not believe in temporary fixes,” shared Simra. Unable to find any proper guidance, she started researching on healthy lifestyles and came across the concept of clean eating which includes long-term lifestyle changes. “After losing my baby weight in eight months, I wanted to share my success story with my female friends and so, I opened a small online group with around 50 people,” she said. Motivated by the tips that were shared, people started inviting their friends and within a month of its inception, 5000 members were added to the group. Soon, it became a platform for sharing tales of lifestyle changes and the importance of regular routines. Currently, over 20,000 women are a part of the group.
As people were getting engaged in the group, Simra observed the scarcity of on-the-go healthy food and quick snacks. To keep her members on the right track, she started making granola at home in a small baking unit. Generally, granola is imported and expensive. While making it at home, Simra could closely monitor its quality and health benefits. “My granola received a hugely positive response and more orders kept pouring in,” she added.
After granola, she moved on to processed nuts. With larger orders, Simra expanded her small venture into FitFood by Thinspired. Today, she has a factory in Mohakhali for running the production. Companies like Cooper’s, Wellbeing, Daraaz and Chaldal are retail partners of the venture.
Being a certified coach of fitness and nutrition, Simra’s initial target group included everyone who wanted to follow a healthy lifestyle. She also creates diet charts from regular meals for the group members. Her next project, Thinspired Wellness, will be a personal consultancy venture, where she will provide in-depth details for healthy diets.
She has already conducted three sponsored seminars on ways to stay healthy. She further plans to introduce three-month guidelines, after her seminars under Thinspired Wellness. Being a culinary artiste, Simra has also collaborated with many corporate companies.
In the next few years, she wants to export products of FitFood and participate in international fairs. Furthermore she intends to introduce more affordable products for the masses.
